EMC has rebranded its Backup Advisor storage reporting software as Data Protection Advisor v5.0, and expanded the software's support for VMware and EMC Celerra storage systems.

"With the new version, coverage is expanded, providing the benefits of faster decisions and improved cost reduction across more of the IT infrastructure," said the firm in a statement.

Data Protection Advisor v5.0 will be available on 23 December, as will a new edition of the firm's Networker backup application which will now support Microsoft Hyper-V virtual environments.

EMC has also added new capabilities to its Avamar data de-duplication product, including increased reporting capacity.

"Advanced health check and email home alerts notify administrators of capacity-full and other conditions that help mitigate risk," said EMC.

Enhanced security for the product includes 256-bit AES encryption, certificate-based authentication and server auto-restart functionality. The latest version of Avamar will be available from 5 December.

An update to EMC's RecoverPoint data recovery product will contain new CDP capabilities and support for the EMC Clariion storage product. It will be available from the end of this week.
