Apple has finally announced that 100,000 applications are now available from the iPhone App Store.
Last week, V3.co.uk reported that App Shopper, a web site devoted to iPhone applications, had broken the news, and Apple has now confirmed the reports.
The company said that reaching the 100,000 mark cemented its position as the largest application store in the world, and that customers in 77 countries had access to a range of applications in 20 categories, including items by Noel Edmonds and David Hasselhoff.
Users have downloaded over two billion applications, according to Apple, and a number of new features, such as 'shake to shuffle' and cut-and-paste functions, will only increase sales, the firm said.
Apple was keen to mention that its software development kit had proved popular with developers.
"The App Store, now with over 100,000 applications, is clearly a major differentiator for millions of iPhone and iPod touch customers around the world, " said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide product marketing.
"The iPhone SDK created the first great platform for mobile applications, and our customers are loving all of the amazing apps our developers are creating."
