Vulnerability management firm Lumension Security has extended its endpoint protection capabilities with a new anti-virus offering designed to provide signature-based and behavioural detection methods to block all types of malware.
Lumension AntiVirus features traditional signature matching techniques alongside newer methods such as DNA matching and sandboxing, which can help to identify zero-day threats.
Also featured are capabilities to detect and quarantine malware hidden inside files and documents, and functionality to clean the network of all detected malware.
The tool has been designed to work alongside Lumension's other endpoint solutions, including its Application Control whitelisting solution.
Eric Ogren, principal analyst at Ogren Group, argued that firms need to take an increasingly proactive and blended approach to threats.
"Lumension now offers solution layers that close system vulnerabilities, identify and remove attacks, and protect against malware from Web 2.0 threats," he said.
"Organisations that adopt such a co-ordinated defence will be better able to protect against threats, keeping their network, endpoints and business resistant to the daily influx of newborn malware."
