A spokeswoman for the Public and Commercial Services Union - the trade union that represents Revenue staff - said there were 'hundreds' of people involved across centres located in Manchester, East Kilbride, Dunfermaline and Sunderland.

The 15-minute walkout was a plea for help to the board of the Revenue. The spokeswoman said that staff were looking for 'more staff, more reliable computer systems, better support from managers and better training'.

A spokesman for the Inland Revenue said the protests were very isolated incidents and had no material effect on the Revenue's operations.
